How To Deal With Sinusitis

Sinusitis to our knowledge is very common for most people. Even though being such a common problem it tends to cause too much trouble. There are three types of sinusitis which affects our life Acute, Subacute and Chronic. Sinusitis is an inflammation of the sinus membrane which can either be infectious or non-infectious.

Time Tested Sinusitis Herbal Remedies Part 2

Time Tested Sinusitis Herbal Remedies Part 2

Recently I wrote the popular Time Tested Sinusitis Herbal Remedies article found on many health related websites. I’ve received numerous emails and comments with people stating they’ve already found sinus relief with these remedies, but also many have said they couldn’t find the recommended sinusitis herbal remedies. So here is another list of Time/" target="_blank" rel="external" title="Remembering To Pay Your Bills On Time

">Time tested sinusitis herbal remedies that hopefully you’ll find at your local health care store.

Goldenseal innate properties make this another fabulous remedy for sinusitis. It has antimicrobial properties to help fight bacteria and is also classified as a drying herb. In its natural form this plant prefers a high amount of water and therefore taken as a tea or capsule helps dry out the sinus congestion found in sinusitis. If you suffer from sinusitis where mucus predominates this herb is perfect for you. As a tincture take about ½ dropper full three times a day diluted in warm water.  If you prefer to take capsules studies show taking 50mg 3 times a day.

Another herb very similar to Goldenseal is Yerba Mansa. Although it is not in the same plant family, the innate medicinal qualities mirror each others.  Along with its drying properties it excels and reducing inflamed tissues. This is especially important for sinusitis. Reducing the inflammation of the mucus membranes in the sinus passages is a sure way to find symptom relief. Using this herb as a tincture is the best method. There are a few doctors who use a diluted tincture in a nasal spray bottle.

I talked last Time about using the essential oils of Eucalyptus in a steam inhalation to find symptomatic relief. An herb that you can use at home is Sage. Throwing a handful of sage into a pot of hot water, cover it and bring to a boil. Then remove the post from the stove and inhale the steam with a towel draped over your head. The oils extracted by this process act as a natural decongestant.

Lastly is salt water. The ionic composition of salt water makes this an ideal solution for sinus irrigation. Many people have tried sinus irrigation techniques but with distilled or tap water and have either found temporary or no relief at all. This is because the sinus mucus layer is has a specific electrolyte (potassium, sodium, chloride) composition. If this composition is interrupted, such as mixing with normal water, the sinus cells actually think that more mucus should be produced. Of course we know this can make sinus infections worse.  Using salt water as the irrigation solution makes sure this doesn’t happen.

As always consult your local physician before impmlementing any therapy.

How to Deal with Repeated Sinus Symptoms

How to Deal with Repeated Sinus Symptoms

The advancement in medical science and technology has empowered the doctors to offer a minimally invasive treatment for breaking the frequent outbreaks of CRS (Chronic Sinusitis). Life is pretty tough for the patients suffering from sinusitis as well as several allergies. But this new treatment known as FINess sinus can provide considerable relief to the patients that experience persistent sinusitis symptoms despite of using nasal steroids or any antibiotics.

FINess sinus treatment is a wonderful as well as painless alternate to painful and more invasive surgery. This new procedure can help the patients suffering from facial pressure/pain, sinus headaches and repeated sinus infections. The best part about this new technique is that it can be carried out on an outpatient basis. You do not require more than a week to feel hundred percent once again.

This technique is becoming quite popular as it results in lesser bleeding, minimal pain and requires very small recovery time. In almost all the cases, the patients can easily return back within hours to carry out their normal chores. Clinical results prove that this technique has worked for countless people by keeping their treated sinuses open for experiencing quality improvements.

This procedure is quite different from traditional sinus surgeries. This technique involves the removing of delicate sinus tissue and bone. The doctors make use of local anesthesia, sometimes without or with slight sedation. The main things that are used in this technique are a small balloon catheter and a micro endoscope. The main aim of this procedure is to dilate the narrowed down passageway. The doctors use the patient’s lip to make a small entry point for accessing this blocked passage.

A considerable percentage of population is affected by Chronic Sinusitis and this treatment can bring down the number of sinusitis surgeries that are carried out each year. Today, there are a number of alternative treatments such as FINess, Pillar Procedure, etc are available that can help such patients considerably. Acute as well chronic sinus can cause a number of turbulences in the patient’s life because of constant discomfort and regular pain. But now there is no need to suffer as sinusitis is easily curable with the help of latest techniques.

Don’t Be Overcome by Sinus Problems

Don’t Be Overcome by Sinus Problems

Sinus Problems affect millions of people on a daily basis. Many people face these Problems from the time they wake up in the morning until they go to bed at night. These Problems affect them at work, school, play, and during relaxation times. It’s a drag to be constantly pulled down with sinus infections and sinus headaches. Life can seem unbearable at times from sinus Problems and better off just to sleep the day away.

Sinus Headaches
Once in a while I’ll battle a sinus headache. At those times my head really feels like it’s going to explode. All day long all that I feel like doing is staying in bed and sleeping. When I have sinus headaches, I can’t think straight and don’t feel like being around anyone. My thoughts jumble together and life is pretty darn miserable. Sinus headache days are days that I’d like to erase from my memory all together.

Sinus Problems
A few days ago my friend and I started talking about sinus problems. He told me he constantly has to deal with sinus problems from the time he wakes up until he goes to bed at night. This friend of mine described a usual day for him and how sinus problems make most days a terrible experience. He says that upon waking up he can already feel the pressure surrounding his eyes. If he doesn’t take measures to relieve the pressure in the morning, it remains with him throughout the day at work and at school. The pressure constantly builds and irritates. By mid afternoon, he feels like taking a nap to rid himself of the pressure. He says he’ll try methods get rid of the pain but nothing usually works. Caffeine doesn’t make him any less sleepy and definitely doesn’t get rid of the pain. His sinus problems affect him during his classes as well. He can’t concentrate during class as he focuses on the immense pressure and pain surrounding his sinuses. At work, he had more troubles focusing and getting his tasks done. To me that doesn’t seem like a fun way to start off each day, let alone spend the whole day.

My friend’s not the only one who experiences sinus problems to such a degree. There are many more people out there, young and old, that suffer from the same kinds of symptoms that make it hard to get out of the bed in the morning. Sinus problems cause major problems for all those who wish to live healthy, active lives. Steps can be made and medicine taken to improve these sinus problems.

Take Care of the Problem
Nobody wants to walk around in a daze and feeling constant pressure from sinus problems. It’s time to make life easier for yourself and get you looking forward to waking up in the morning as well taking on the tasks of the day.  Nowadays, there are many ways to better your situation and tackle your sinus problems rather than just relying on antibiotics. Natural forms of medicine, like xylitol, offer new and healthier ways of taking care of sinus pain. Remember to always consult a physician so that you know the severity of your sinus problem and get the best treatment that suits your sinus condition.

Infectious and Non-infectious Causes of Sinus Infections – Part Two

The gastro esophageal reflux disease with acid turns in the esophagus is being associated with many cases of respiratory diseases in children but also in some cases of chronic sinusitis in adults. In a clinical study more than 4% of the children suffering from GERD had sinus damages, and about 63% of children with sinusitis had GERD. Some specialists see the gastro esophageal reflux as normal in children and deny its significance for upper respiratory diseases.

Most common infectious cause for sinusitis is the next bacteria:

1. Streptococcus pneumonia in about 20-43% of the cases of sinusitis, adults and children

2. Haemophylus Influenza strongly associated with many respiratory conditions. Almost ½ of children under two years are colonized by it and approximately 25% develop sinusitis. Also 22-35% of adults with sinusitis have positive results to H. Influenza tests.

3. Moraxella catharallis causes about 25% of the sinus infection cases.

4. Staphylococcus aureus

5. Other stems of streptococcus

Allergic fungal sinusitis covers about 5-10% of the sinusitis cases and researchers make constant studies to find the right methods of diagnose and therapy. As it plays an important role in the appearance of chronic sinusitis, fungal sinusitis is more seen as an immune affection.

Sinusitis causing fungus is Aspergillus, the most common, Curvularia, Bipolaris, Mucormycosis, Exseohilum, Metarrhlizzium anisopliae.

Four forms of allergic fungal sinusitis are known:

1. The acute sinusitis, an invasive condition affecting especially patients with diabetes and persons with weaken immune system

2. Chronic sinus infection mostly found in northern India

3. Mycetoma, known as the “fungus ball” generally appears in only one sinus cavity especially the maxillary sinus. It is non-invasive and easy to treat

4. An allergic sinusitis due to an inflammatory response to Aspergillus, causing nasal obstruction and bone erosion.

Fungal sinusitis usually appears in persons with a weak immune system, such as patients suffering from AIDS, leukemia or diabetes.

Viral sinusitis only fills 10% of sinus infection cases.

Some cases of acute and chronic sinusitis seem to have same or assembling infectious agents; but in some cases of chronicle sinusitis the trigger is totally different from the initial agent causing the acute infection. 20% of chronicle stages of sinusitis have as a pathological agent Staphylococcus aureus; it can appear also in the acute stage but is rarely the cause of infection.

Some anaerobic bacteria like Peptostreptococcus and Fusobacterium prevotella are common in around 88% of chronic sinusitis.

Fungal chronic sinusitis occupy about 6-8% of the chronic sinus inflammations and infections.

Factors On What Causes Sinus Drainage

Factors On What Causes Sinus Drainage

when you ask, “What causes sinus drainage,” you almost certainly don’t realize that you have sinus drainage every day, even when you are perfectly healthy. Your body produces up to one-half gallon of saliva and mucus every day in the lungs, nose, throat and sinuses. You swallow several times in a minute, so extrapolate that out for an entire day and you get a lot of drainage swallowed down the throat!

The reply to What causes sinus drainage is that normal everyday body functions cause it. You don’t notice it when you are healthy for the reason that swallowing and occasional nose blowing is just a part of your every day activities. What you do notice though is when that drainage causes a sore throat or is so thick that it is hard to swallow. In some cases, an abnormal drainage of the sinuses might even cause an upset stomach.

When you grumble with reference to sinus drainage, there could be a number of health conditions and environmental factors that can cause it. Some of the answers to What causes sinus drainage includes extreme temperature changes, gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), exposure to allergens such as pollen or dust, and even colds and flu.

Because sinus drainage is part of our daily life and it is normal, some of the conditions above answers what causes sinus drainage of the abnormal variety. When you contract a bacterial infection or even a viral infection like a cold, your normal sinus drainage areas become clogged or so gunned up with mucus discharge that the only thing coming out is thick, discolored and sometimes even foul-smelling.

There are a number of choices in over the counter medications that can be taken and the best option is a decongestant, and you can find these in combination with a pain reliever or alone. The best decongestant is known as pseudoephedrine, but it is important to read the label warning carefully and talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any concerns about medical conditions your might have or medications that you are currently taking. If these decongestants do not offer adequate sinus drainage, you can add a decongestant nasal spray like Afrin. Just be sure that you do not use a spray for longer than four days, since long term use can result in a rebounding of your nasal congestion.

While antihistamines are an efficient means of treating seasonal or chronic allergy symptoms, they are not necessarily the best choice in dealing with sinus drainage from a cold or flu. The explanation is that these medications can actually thicken the mucus, inhibiting sinus drainage and possibly leading to an infection. Some of the newer antihistamines on the market today, like Claritin, although it will not thicken the mucus but it will also not effectively promote sinus drainage.

There is also such a thing as massage to help stop sinus drainage. You can try giving yourself a sinus relief massage, Ensure that your hands are at least room temperature. Starting at the center of your forehead and move your fingertips in tiny circles to the temples. Move to the bridge of your nose and massage the same way across your cheeks. Use the same method to massage your jaw line from your ears to your chin.

You can also incorporate acupressure into your facial massage to help stop sinus drainage. This is where you push specific parts of your face for a certain length of time. Acupressure techniques to stop sinus drainage are difficult to accurately explain with just words. Luckily, there are many acupressure techniques to help you stop sinus drainage in books, web sites and instructional DVDs. You can also get it done professionally if you prefer, usually by practitioners of Chinese Medicine or acupuncturists.

What causes sinus drainage owing to allergies and environmental factors could be greatly aided by proper hydration. Many times, you may not be drinking enough fluids to thin out your mucosal secretions which can cause abnormal sinus drainage. Just by drinking plenty of fluids (barring the dehydrating alcohol and caffeine) you can greatly reduce the factor of what causes sinus drainage.

A Link between Sinus Drainage and Diarrhea

There are two different ends in this equation, literally, and both typically deal with bacteria and medication. Diarrhea can be responsible on a number of culprits such as viruses, food intolerances, parasites, intestinal problems, medicine interactions and of course, bacterial infections usually due to contaminated food or water.

Sinus drainage normally occurs in the back of the throat and is the result of some type of infection like bacteria preventing normal drainage from the sinus cavities. When an infection occurs, the drainage makes your throat painful. When there is a difficulty with normal sinus drainage, a medication like antibiotics typically is prescribed to combat the bacterial infection.

Microorganisms causes diarrhea and also causes sinus infections which affect sinus drainage. In conditions of medication, not following the prescribed directions can cause diarrhea. In addition, too much sinus drainage has been known to cause upset stomach and diarrhea as well.

When antibiotics are given for a sinus infection caused by bacteria, the antibiotics do clear up the infection in the sinuses but they also rob your intestinal tract of the “good bacteria” that is essential for digestion. As a result, diarrhea can occur. BAM – it’s another sinus drainage and diarrhea tie-in between these two seemingly dissimilar health issues.
